Tintypes - Both Wet Plate and Digital Snapshots
A series of eight 8”x10” wet plate collodian tintype portraits were taken of the artist posing as asylum patient. The camera employed was authentic to the one used Dr. Hugh Welsh Diamond to capture the emotional state of incoming patients. In several images the artist incorporated her porcelain sculptures as props. She is dressed in clothing from the 19th century - borrowed from a local historic costume collection.
The digital tintype collection are part of a series of snap shots capturing artist unaware and in more casual circumstances. Both groupings relate directly to reasons why women were sent to asylums.
