Hands of Association: Bird in Hand, Poke, Puppeteer, Ascension

The hand sculpture used in my porcelain pieces is a replica of my right hand.  A five-part mold was made to ensure its lifelike texture and size. As a clay artist I am constantly using my hands and the marks of my making are embedded into the clay. Without my right hand it would be impossible for me to create.  I’ve used this hand to explore topics including: crushing or holding nature dear in Bird in Hand; Poke, an exploration of revenge with hands jabbing into the eye sockets of a skull; ancestral storytelling (using finger puppets carved from fingers) in Puppeteer; and reaching for a higher being with Ascension.
